transferrates

If you’ve been staring at our agent’s queue viewer for the past hour, you may have seen that we now display both upload and download data transfer rates in the Progress column. This field only displays this information when the agent is actively moving data, and it will display during any phase of the job when data transfer is involved. The arrow preceding the transfer rate points up or down to indicate the direction of data flow. When there is no data being uploaded or downloaded, the (*Mbps) addition to the Progress percentage will not be displayed. The download rate is averaged over a few files being downloaded, since that’s the only way to get a reasonable indication of throughput.

We hope this will be a handy bit of information for you to troubleshoot the data transfer rate between your agent and our farm. This way, you can tell at a glance when file transfer is happening. We’ve had several people complaining about frames not being downloaded when, in fact, their downstream Internet speed was simply overwhelmed by the amount of their rendered results left to download. The data transfer indication will show you when data is being moved, and how quickly it’s moving.

You can thank Superdev for this nifty addition, which didn’t even require a new agent!
